The idea for DEEP came from a desire to create a project that took advantage of the relationships in the entertainment world that Ellen and I had been developing over the years. We also wanted to tell a story that had a Christian worldview, but wasn't a typical "Christian Film." (In otherwords, we wanted to make a good and entertaining film.)
Not long before I had met Sean Slaughter when I was brought in as a camera man to shoot an interview with him. I liked him, I liked his music, and I liked what I heard about his personal life story.
So, one Saturday morning, Ellen and I dreamed up a story that we thought would make a good film. One in which Sean might be interested in playing the lead.
Ellen typed up the notes of our brainstorming session, filled in some holes in the story, and created a three page treatment for DEEP!
Once the idea is out of your head and written down, it becomes something real. You can register it with the Screenwriters' Guild (we did) and you can show it to other people.
This past Spring I showed the treatment to Sean, and he loved it. He's interested in doing the project. That idea on paper got him excited.
Now the work begins. It's a long way from here to a feature film.
